Celebrate Black History Month

Come celebrate Black History Month with Kaleidoscope Chamber Ensemble! We have curated a program of music written by Black composers from William Grant Still to Jessie Montgomery, with many Kaleidoscope favorites. All are invited to attend this free concert at First Parish of Watertown (35 Church Street, Watertown) on Sunday, February 16 at 3 p.m.

William Grant Still (1895-1978) is often referred to as the “Dean of African American Composers”. Born in Mississippi, he attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where several of Kaleidoscope’s members also studied. Still’s career was remarkable in its breadth and depth, and in the number of his prominent “firsts”: first African American to conduct a leading American symphony orchestra, first African American to have an opera performed by a major opera company, first to have a symphony performed by a leading orchestra, first to have an opera performed on national television, and many more.
