Charlyn Bethell

Charlyn Bethell plays oboe and English horn. She has been an active freelancer in the Boston area, playing in many groups including Emanuel Music, Opera Company of Boston, Rhode Island Philharmonic, New Hampshire Symphony, and recently with the orchestra that played with Andrea Bocelli.

 

Her performance degrees are from Western Washington University and Det Jydsk Musikkonservatorium in Aarhus, Denmark. She was an oboist in the Randers Town-Orchestra in Denmark. Her teachers from the Boston area include: Stuart Dunkel, Fred Cohen and Laurence Thorstenberg.

 

She played in the wind quintet, New Art Winds, who made their Carnegie Hall debut in New York, and she currently plays in Solar Winds. She is the adjunct oboe instructor at Phillips Andover Academy and she is the music director of First Parish in Watertown. She has been a public school general music teacher and recently wrote the book, Transitions, Best Practices in Teaching General Music.
